In the race for the U.S. Senate seat in Virginia, Hung Cao, a Navy combat veteran and Republican candidate, has been making waves by critiquing incumbent Senator Tim Kaine for what he perceives as Kaine’s lack of effective action on behalf of Virginians.
In an in-depth interview on Breitbart News Saturday, Cao delved into the reasons behind his decision to challenge Senator Kaine and outlined his vision for a more responsive and results-oriented representation for the people of Virginia.
Cao began by emphasizing a sentiment shared by many Virginians – a sense of uncertainty regarding what Senator Tim Kaine has actually accomplished during his three decades in politics.
Rather than a list of significant achievements, Kaine is most remembered by some for an incident that involved getting stuck on I-95 during a snowstorm with nothing but a bottle of Dr. Pepper. Cao highlighted that despite Kaine’s lengthy tenure in office, his impact on Virginians’ lives remains a subject of debate.
To underscore his point, noted a pivotal moment in Kaine’s political career: his unsuccessful bid to become Barack Obama’s running mate in 2008. Remarkably, Kaine was passed over for Joe Biden, raising questions about his ability to connect with voters and be an effective leader.
Turning the conversation toward his own qualifications for the Senate, Cao shared his extensive background in the Navy, particularly in special operations. His service included deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and even the Pentagon, where he played a crucial role in balancing the Navy’s $140 billion budget. Cao’s experience in managing complex financial matters is a testament to his ability to tackle challenging issues head-on.
As a legal immigrant who patiently waited seven years to obtain U.S. citizenship, Cao expressed a deep appreciation for the American dream and underscored the importance of respecting and adhering to American laws. He believes that his immigrant experience has shaped his values and commitment to serving his country.
Cao’s ability to connect with diverse demographics in Virginia was another highlight of his candidacy. He mentioned his capacity to understand and address the unique concerns and aspirations of various communities, such as the Chinese, Koreans, Indians, and Vietnamese, which make up a significant portion of Virginia’s population.
National security was another crucial topic in Cao’s interview. He expressed genuine concern about the threats facing America due to the southern border crisis and the alignment of countries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. Cao criticized politicians who fail to recognize China as an existential threat to the United States and accused them of indirectly supporting terrorist organizations. His perspective on national security is informed by his extensive military experience.

Cao concluded by underlining his international experience, proficiency in three languages, and visits to over 40 countries, which he believes uniquely position him to serve as a senator.
In a political landscape often dominated by career politicians, Cao offers a compelling alternative—a leader who has served his country, balanced budgets, and navigated the complexities of a changing world.
