NEW PALTZ – A 21-year-old undergraduate student at SUNY New Paltz has died, College President Darrell Wheeler announced to the college council on Wednesday.
He also issued a memo to members of the campus community. “It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of undergraduate student (name withheld by MHN).”
Wheeler said the young man died off campus at a local hospital and the university is in contact with his family.
The young man was a senior economics major living on campus, Wheeler said.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to (name withheld’s) family and friends, his hallmates and to the faculty and staff who had the privilege to know him,” the college president said.
The cause and date of his death were not immediately available, but Wheeler said (the senior) was able to talk with family members before he passed away.
