Judge’s restraining order halts deportation of Venezuelan gang members as impeachment push gains support from legal and political allies.

Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) announced this week that he will file articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, following Boasberg’s order blocking President Donald Trump’s deportation of Venezuelan gang members under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. The decision by Boasberg, an Obama appointee, temporarily halted Trump’s directive and required deportation flights already underway to return hundreds of deportees to the United States.
President Trump had invoked the Alien Enemies Act on Saturday to expedite the removal of members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. The administration sought to deport illegal alien gang members swiftly, citing urgent threats to public safety. “The administration’s objective was to swiftly deport gang members infiltrating the United States without adhering to the prolonged procedures typically associated with criminal and immigration proceedings,” the White House said. “This decisive action was intended to protect American communities from the gang’s criminal activities.”
Judge Boasberg issued a 14-day temporary restraining order in response to a legal challenge, effectively halting the deportations and mandating the return of the detainees to U.S. soil. The move drew sharp criticism from Trump allies, who accused Boasberg of obstructing executive action and endangering public safety.
Rep. On Monday, Attorney Mike Davis of the Article III Project appeared on Steve Bannon’s War Room, where he expressed support for Gill’s impeachment effort and discussed broader plans to hold Judge Boasberg accountable. “We’re going to remove America-hating Judge James Boasberg,” Davis stated during the interview.
Davis criticized Boasberg’s ruling as an overreach that undermined Trump’s constitutional authority under Article II and the Alien Enemies Act. “This judge is obstructing the president’s duty to defend our country and remove foreign terrorists from our soil,” Davis said.
Supporters of the impeachment effort are calling on the public to join the movement to remove Boasberg from the bench, arguing that his ruling jeopardizes national security by forcing the Trump administration to readmit individuals associated with violent criminal organizations.
