COLD SPRING – For decades Ralph Landolfi answered the call as a member of the Cold Spring Fire Department rising to the rank of chief and president before becoming a Putnam County fire coordinator in the 1980’s and ‘90’s.
Landolfi, who passed away March 14 at the age of 87, will be laid to rest Tuesday following a funeral mass at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring.
Putnam Commissioner of Emergency Services Robert Lipton described Landolfi as a man whose “66 years in the fire service of leadership, courage and tireless work ethic have left a permanent mark on all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those who were touched by his remarkable legacy.”
Landolfi was a lifelong resident of Cold Spring.
Upon his graduation from Haldane High School in 1954, Landolfi entered the military. Following his service, he was employed for 36 years with IBM before embarking on a second career with the Cold Spring Highway Department.
Landolfi is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mariann, four children, 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Cold Spring firefighter brothers and sisters remembered Landolfi for “never missing a chance to wave the American flag at a parade on Main Street or partaking in a celebration at the riverfront. He was adored by many friends in the community and could be seen on Saturday mornings sipping coffee with the Cold Spring ‘old timers.’ Rest in peace Chief Landolfi! You will never be forgotten.”
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Landolfi’s name to St. Jude or Our Lady of Loretto parish in Cold Spring.
