PUTNAM LAKE – Funeral services are being held today (Saturday) for Peter Maycott, a 50-year-member of the Putnam Lake Fire Department, who rose to the rank as chief.
Maycott, 80, was remembered as a man who was a mentor to younger first responders for decades.
Putnam Lake Fire Chief Michael Gagliardo described Maycott’s legacy as “one of selflessness, service, and unwavering dedication. While serving with our department, Chief Maycott became a cornerstone of the community.”
Gagliardo said Maycott “exemplified what it meant to be a true public servant. His commitment to the safety of others was not just his job—it was his calling. But it wasn’t just his professional achievements that made Peter so special—it was his heart.”
Maycott was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service—a position held for 37 years.
He was also a member of the Hudson Valley Critical Incident Stress Management Team working through many incidents over the course of his career.
The funeral service to celebrate Maycott’s life will take place at the Patterson Baptist Church and will be officiated over by Pastor Dr. Larry Maxwell.
