Ryder Farm back in action

Ryder Farm back in action

BREWSTER- Ryder Farm, one of the oldest family-owned farms on the East Coast, established on the grounds of a 227 year old family homestead at the Putnam-Westchester County line and one of the first adopters of organic farming is back.

Due to a number of unforeseen circumstances the farm shuttered its doors last summer but now according to Kelly Burdick: “We’re thrilled to announce that Ryder Farm on Starr Ridge Road is back in action in 2025 now that our new company RE Endeavors has taken over the agricultural lease and opened a guesthouse and creative retreat program that serves both artists and creative institutions—along with private families and friend groups for stays on the farm.”

The farm will provide a full agricultural season planned from June to November bringing local produce to the region.

Adam Mahon, lead farmer for RE Endeavors, said the Ryder staff was “proud to offer the variety and convenience that we do, but beyond that, it is the intimacy and immediacy of our work that speaks to our goals as a company. We are a family-scale operation. Our produce goes directly from our hands to yours, and from your hands directly onto your family’s table. I am profoundly grateful to our members for giving us the opportunity to connect with our community through their support of our operation and their presence in our farm stand.”

Burdick added: “We believe that fresh, nutritious food is not a luxury, and we price our produce accordingly. Small farms operate on razor-thin margins. As food-buying programs through the U.S. Department of Agriculture that benefit farmers and communities have been cancelled en masse, those margins are even thinner.”

RE Endeavors is also a participant in emergency food provision through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County ensuring that fresh produce reaches those in need through coordinated partnerships with Meals on Main and Second Chance Foods.
