ALBANY – Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne and County Legislator Bill Gouldman this week recognized Ireland’s Consul General to New York, Hon. Helena Nolan, during the 52nd Annual St. Patrick’s Dinner of the American Irish Legislators Society of New York. The event, attended by dozens of state lawmakers and dignitaries, celebrated Irish heritage and honored Consul General Nolan, who is also set to become Ireland’s next Ambassador to Morocco.
The dinner was attended by a distinguished lineup of officials, including Governor Kathy Hochul, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and New York State DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder.
Byrne and Gouldman set the tone for the evening with a lively bagpipe and drum performance, a tribute to their shared appreciation of Irish culture. Byrne, a former member of the American Irish Legislators Society from his time as an Assemblyman, continues to remain actively involved as Putnam County Executive.
“It was an honor to recognize Consul General Helena Nolan and present her with a Putnam County Challenge Coin as a symbol of the unbreakable bond between our nations,” said County Executive Byrne. “Ireland and the United States share a rich history, and events like this reinforce the deep connections between our communities.”
Legislator Bill Gouldman echoed Byrne’s sentiments, stating, “The Irish have made immeasurable contributions to our nation, and it was a privilege to be part of an evening that celebrates that legacy. We were thrilled to recognize Consul General Nolan for her service and leadership.”
The American Irish Legislators Society of New York has a long tradition of fostering strong ties between Irish-American leaders and public officials. The evening served as an opportunity to highlight the cultural and political connections between Ireland and New York while celebrating the contributions of Irish Americans to public service.
