Nathan MacKinnon extends his point streak to 18 games with an assist as the Colorado Avalanche secure a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. Alexandar Georgiev makes 24 saves, and goals from Bowen Byram, Valeri Nichushkin, Josh Manson, and Fredrik Olofsson contribute to the win. MacKinnon’s 18-game point streak is the second-longest in Colorado’s history, trailing only Paul Stastny. The Avalanche, with three wins in four games, head into the NHL’s holiday break.
In the second period, MacKinnon sets up Nichushkin for a goal, marking MacKinnon’s 25th point in December, just three away from the franchise record set by Peter Stastny in 1981. MacKinnon maintains a point streak in all 18 home games, the longest season-opening home point streak in Quebec/Colorado history. Colorado’s defensemen lead the league with 27 goals, and Byram’s first-period goal contributes to this tally.
Alex Kerfoot scores a power-play goal for the Coyotes, ending Georgiev’s shutout bid. Connor Ingram makes 22 saves for the Coyotes, halting their four-game winning streak. The Avalanche’s upcoming game against the Coyotes is scheduled for Wednesday in Arizona.
Noteworthy updates include Artturi Lehkonen’s return to practice after a neck injury and Samuel Girard’s clearance to resume practice following his participation in the player assistance program, where he addressed anxiety, depression, and alcohol abuse.
