In a heartwarming yet heartbreaking display of filial devotion, a baby elephant refused to leave its unconscious mother’s side as authorities worked tirelessly to revive her. The touching scene unfolded in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, when the mother elephant was found unconscious in the Marudhamalai foothills.
Discovered by forest department patrols, the mother was in poor health and unresponsive, with her distressed calf loyally standing beside her. Led by District Forest Officer Jeyaraj and veterinarian Dr. Sukumar, the teams worked relentlessly to save the mother, administering 30 bottles of fluids and nutrients over the course of two days. After two days of intensive care, the mother elephant finally regained consciousness. Using a crane, the team helped her to her feet. In a touching moment of relief, the baby elephant was reunited with its mother. The emotional reunion underscored the deep bond between the two animals.
Supriya Sahu, Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, praised the efforts of the rescue teams on social media, calling the rescue “a remarkable testament to the compassion and dedication of the forest department in saving lives.”
