KINGSTON – A New York City Department of Environmental Protection officer has claimed his own life, the Environmental Police Benevolent Association reported on Facebook.
The post said Det. William Kresser succumbed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston.
“This is a heartbreaking loss,” the post said. “This is a vey difficult time for everyone.”
The union said the DEP will be offering supportive services and counseling for Det. Kresser’s co-workers. “Many of use have worked alongside him or been trained by him for nearly 20 years,” the post said.
