The Justice Department has formed a new task force, Joint Task Force October 7, to bring justice to the victims of Hamas’ terrible attack on Israel. The task force will investigate, identify, and prosecute those responsible, including individuals and organizations that have provided support or funding to Hamas and other terrorist groups, said Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The October 7 Joint Task Force will focus on prosecuting individuals involved in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack that killed around 1,200 people, including 47 Americans, and took over 250 hostages, including eight Americans. The FBI and the National Security Division of the Justice Department will lead the effort, and agents will be placed in Israel’s counterterrorism unit to enhance cooperation.
The launch of the task force coincided with the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, an anti-Israel activist who led radical demonstrations at Columbia University and is allegedly associated with Hamas.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched a massive counterterrorism campaign to hold Hamas and its allies accountable for the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Monday that the Joint Task Force on October 7 had been established. “There will be repercussions, and the savage Hamas terrorists will not prevail,” Bondi stated. The task force will focus on investigating and prosecuting those responsible for the attack, including those who provided financial and logistical support to Hamas, its Iranian-backed branches, and other antisemitic groups.
A top DOJ counterterrorism prosecutor will spearhead the effort, working with an FBI special agent commander and an FBI intelligence analyst. The FBI will also embed agents with Israel’s National Bureau of Counter Terrorism to enhance intelligence sharing and operations against Hamas’ global fundraising networks. The timing of the announcement is noteworthy since it follows the arrest of anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil.
On March 9, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested Khalil, a Palestinian who was born and raised in Syria and is a permanent U.S. citizen. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has linked him to Hamas-related activities, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio has vowed to deport everyone in the nation found to be supporting the terrorist organization and revoke green cards.
White House insiders told Fox News Digital that Khalil is being looked into as a potential national security threat. After authorities found “antisemitic and hateful” social media posts, they accused him of organizing anti-Israel protests at Columbia University, which they said were influenced by pro-Hamas propaganda.
