Trump cites taxpayer burden and human rights concerns in ending protection for Biden family members.

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he has revoked United States Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, citing excessive taxpayer expense and concerns over Hunter Biden’s international travel. “Effective immediately,” Trump stated, both will be removed from the list of individuals receiving government-funded protection.
“Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer. There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous!” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He is currently vacationing in, of all places, South Africa, where the Human Rights of people has been strenuously questioned. Because of this, South Africa has been taken off our list of Countries receiving Economic and Financial Assistance. Please be advised that, effective immediately, Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden who has 13 agents will be taken off the list.”

Hunter Biden is presently in South Africa, reportedly to avoid a deposition in a legal case. According to the New York Post, Hunter Biden was scheduled to be deposed on March 10 by Garrett Ziegler, who Biden alleges illegally accessed and distributed contents from his laptop. Just days before the scheduled testimony, Hunter Biden moved to dismiss the case. Ziegler’s legal team speculated that Hunter Biden exaggerated financial difficulties to avoid the deposition and instead planned a three-month trip to South Africa, the native country of his wife, Melissa Cohen.
Investigative journalist Laura Loomer released photographs last week of Hunter Biden, Cohen, and their son Beau vacationing in Cape Town, surrounded by a large Secret Service detail. Loomer reported that the U.S. Secret Service was working with the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria to provide taxpayer-funded protection for the Biden family during their stay. “I can confirm via my on-the-ground investigation that the US Secret Service is working with the US Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa to provide US taxpayer funded protection for Hunter Biden and his wife during their entire time in South Africa, and his Secret Service detail includes 12 agents per day,” Loomer wrote on X.
She further stated, “4 agents work to protect Hunter and his wife every 8 hours in 3 shifts, for a total of 12 Secret Service agents every day, ON US TAXPAYER DIME!” with accompanying photos of the family and their security detail.
Additional images of Melissa Cohen with Secret Service agents in Cape Town have since surfaced, reinforcing the scale of the protective detail during their overseas vacation.
Trump’s directive not only ends their federal protection but also reflects a broader shift in how taxpayer-funded resources are being deployed under his administration, especially amid ongoing legal controversies involving Hunter Biden.
