Bindi Irwin, the renowned wildlife conservationist and daughter of the late Steve Irwin, has shared an important reminder for those curious about whether she plans to have more children. In a recent YouTube Q&A on the Australia Zoo channel, Bindi and her husband, Chandler Powell, opened up about this frequently asked question, explaining that it is a deeply personal and sensitive topic.
“Please be gentle and pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’ll be having more children,” Bindi stated, reflecting on her challenging journey with endometriosis, a condition that can affect fertility. She emphasized that while curiosity may come from a place of kindness, it's important to recognize that many families, including her own, might face struggles that aren’t visible to the outside world.
Grace as a Miracle Baby
Bindi and Chandler are parents to a three-year-old daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, whom they describe as their “miracle baby.” Chandler highlighted the couple’s gratitude for their daughter during the Q&A, saying, “We love Grace so much and are reveling in every little moment we have with her.” He also mentioned that their focus is currently on enjoying life as a family of three, following Bindi’s health struggles.
Bindi, who has been open about her battle with endometriosis, shared that having Grace was nothing short of a miracle. Chandler elaborated, “Bindi went through a big journey with endometriosis, and it was an absolute miracle that we had Grace.” Given the difficulties they faced, the couple expressed immense joy and fulfillment with their current family.
A Caution for Asking Sensitive Questions
Despite the happiness surrounding their family life, Bindi reminded her audience to be cautious when asking about children. "I really appreciate everybody who’s curious to see if we will have another child, but I want to send it out there to remember to be careful when you ask this question because you never know what’s happening in someone’s life," she explained in the video.
Bindi shared that while people often mean well, questions about family planning can be “tricky” for many. She urged others to recognize that families may face private challenges, such as infertility or medical conditions, that may not be obvious from the outside.
Uncertainty About Future Children
Bindi and Chandler also addressed the possibility of having more children. While they cherish their time with Grace, Bindi hinted that their family might remain as it is. "We feel very lucky to have Grace. She is our beautiful girl, but she will probably be our one child," she revealed. That said, Bindi left the door open for the future, adding, "Maybe we will be blessed with another little one down the road. That would be incredible. But who knows?"
Bindi also made it clear that she dislikes the use of the word "only" when referring to their daughter, saying, "Grace is our child. She is our one beautiful, perfect, amazing little girl. And, oh my goodness, every single day I think about how lucky we are to have her."
Bindi's Battle with Endometriosis
Bindi’s health challenges have been a key factor in shaping her family’s journey. In March 2023, she revealed on Instagram that she had undergone surgery for endometriosis, during which doctors removed 37 endometrial lesions and a cyst. Endometriosis is a painful condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, often causing severe pain, heavy periods, and fertility issues. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the condition affects about 11% of women between the ages of 15 and 44.
Bindi's openness about her condition has resonated with many, as she uses her platform to raise awareness about the struggles women face with such health issues.
Final Thoughts: A Message of Mindfulness
To close her message, Bindi sent love to others facing similar challenges. "Sending all my love and hugs to everybody out there who is on their own women’s health journey," she said, reinforcing her belief in the importance of being sensitive to others’ personal circumstances.
For Bindi and Chandler, their daughter Grace remains the center of their lives. While the future remains uncertain, one thing is clear: Bindi’s message of compassion and mindfulness will continue to inspire many.
