Cubs Snap Losing Streak with Five-Run 10th Inning to Defeat Brewers 6-3

Michael Tauchman ignited a five-run 10th inning with a go-ahead single as the visiting Chicago Cubs broke their five-game losing streak by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 on Tuesday night.

Tauchman led off the 10th inning with a hard-hit liner that struck pitcher Trevor Megill (0-1), who had just entered the game. Megill couldn’t field the ball, allowing pinch runner Luis Vazquez to score from second base.

Following Megill’s injury, Hoby Milner came on in relief but couldn’t stop the Cubs’ rally. Seiya Suzuki’s bloop single advanced Tauchman to third, and Cody Bellinger drove him in with an RBI single to center, making it 3-1. Nick Madrigal then sacrificed the runners forward, setting up Ian Happ for a two-run double to right. Michael Busch capped the inning with an RBI single.

The Brewers attempted a comeback in the bottom of the 10th, scoring two runs on Sal Frelick’s RBI groundout and Owen Miller’s RBI single, but fell short.

Milwaukee, which had been held to just one hit through 8 2/3 innings, tied the game 1-1 in the ninth inning on Willy Adames’ two-out RBI single off Hector Neris (5-0). Christian Yelich had walked with two outs and advanced on a balk, scoring on Adames’ hit before Adames was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.

Cubs rookie Ben Brown was outstanding, tossing seven hitless innings with only two fifth-inning walks and striking out a career-high 10 batters over 93 pitches. Frelick broke up the Cubs’ no-hit bid with a one-out single off Hayden Wesneski in the eighth inning.

In the top of the ninth, the Cubs loaded the bases on three walks by Elvis Peguero but failed to score as Miguel Amaya struck out to end the threat.

Busch had earlier given the Cubs a 1-0 lead with his eighth homer of the season in the third inning off Brewers starter Freddy Peralta. Peralta pitched well, allowing one run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out 11 and walking two in a 111-pitch effort.

The Cubs’ resilient offense and stellar pitching performance ended their losing streak, while the Brewers’ late-game rally fell short, highlighting the intense and competitive nature of this matchup.
