King George VI of England (1895-1952) was an important monarch in British history. His full name was Albert Frederick Arthur George and he was the second son of King George V and Mary of Teck. George VI became king after his brother, Edward VIII, resigned in 1936. He ascended the throne at a rather difficult time, when the world was facing instability and preparations for the Second World War. He and Queen Elizabeth (later known as Queen Elizabeth, mother of Queen Elizabeth II) played an important role in lifting the nation's morale and maintaining the trust of the people throughout the war.
