The Washington State Patrol is investigating a series of shootings that happened within hours of each other on highways in south King County Wednesday night.

What was believed to be four shootings turned into six, in an update posted by WSP Trooper Rick Johnson Thursday afternoon. He said WSP received calls from two additional victims reporting they were shot at Wednesday night.

Investigators believe at least two shootings on I-5 involved the same vehicle, described as "potentially a lighter blue Nissan 350Z or 370Z.” Johnson said the vehicle was newer and had a large spoiler. The suspected shooter was described as a white man in 30s or 40s. Johnson said the suspect was believed to have a handgun and was the only person in the vehicle.

"We can't rationalize something irrational," WSP Captain Ron Mead said Friday of the unusual string of shootings.
