Behind Audrey Hepburn's glamorous public persona, lies a story of abandonment, trauma – and a ceaseless search for love. After the Second World War she started dancing in the evenings to earn a living, all while also studying ballet. And it was at one of these performances that she was scouted. 

Although she never planned to be an actress, Audrey Hepburn went on to win an Oscar at age 24! After Roman Holiday's success made Hepburn an overnight star, she met actor and director Mel Ferrer. The couple married, and Ferrer steered Audrey's career in an almost father-like way. 

Motherhood turned out to be Audrey's favorite role, and she even put her career on hold to raise her son Sean. After 14 years of marriage, Audrey and Mel divorced. Her second husband, Italian psychiatrist, Andrea Dotti, was nine years her junior.

They settled in Rome and just four months into marriage, Hepburn fell pregnant with her second son, Luca. But while she was expecting Luca, Andrea went out partying in Rome...
As the years went by, Dotti was photographed with 200 different mistresses. After 12 years of marriage, Hepburn split from Dotti. 

Despite all the tragedy, there was one saving grace. Audrey discovered humanitarian work. And as if life knew she deserved happiness, she finally met her one true love, Dutch TV actor, Robert Wolders. When Audrey lost her battle with cancer at age 60, she and Robert had been together for 13 years. And now, Audrey Hepburn's legacy of unconditional love lives on, inspiring humanitarian efforts by many celebrities.
