The Legendary Udumbara Flower
Udumbara is a beautiful and rare flower whose stems look like silk threads, and it seems like a beautiful bell. The small white flowers on their slender stems make it less visible. Udumbara flowers are located inside the fruit and are hidden inside the fruit. Legend has it that this flower grows every three thousand years and is a sign of rare occurrence. Udumbara is a Sanskrit word meaning "blessed flower of heaven".
Volume 8 of the Buddhist scripture “Huilin Phonetics and Interpretation” states: “The udumbara flower is the product of propitious and supernatural phenomena; it is a celestial flower and does not exist in the mundane world. If a Tathagata or the King of the Golden Wheel appears in the human world, this flower will appear due to his great virtue and blessings.”
Interestingly, this rare, beautiful and legendary flower has recently been seen in many parts of the world, making it possible for many people worldwide to see its blossoms. Udumbara blossoms were first seen on a Buddha statue in a temple in South Korea in 1997. Subsequently found in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Northern California and Texas. In addition, they often appear on bronze Buddha statues, on rocks or steel, the petals of which have attracted the attention of many people.
A Chinese farmer was surprised to find these delicate flowers on pipes in his garden. "The stems of this flower are similar to slender human hair, and about 38 small white flowers are placed on the tips of these stems," he said. According to legend, Udumbara flowers grow in space, are pure white, and are "not dusty." In recent years, people who have found Udumbara have reported keeping it without fading for a long time.
According to Buddhism, the flower of Udumbara is a flower associated with Buddhist sacred texts, a symbol of good fortune and a symbol of the holy king of Falun. When udumbara flowers appear, Maitreya appears in the human world. Buddhist mythology says that the Udumbara flower blooms only once every 3,000 years, the last time before the birth of a Buddha, and can herald the emergence of a great sage. According to Buddhist mythology, its appearance heralds the arrival of a holy king who turns the wheel and corrects Dharma in the world. It is said that this king accepts anyone with any religious affiliation and offers salvation to all through compassion.
