Step 11, 2018 - BristolAFOH ask Bristol City Council to de-twin from Guangzhou, China in Bristol City Hall Council Meeting.
Campaigners want Marvin Rees to scrap Bristol's ties with China's Guangzhou over alleged claims of forced organ harvesting.
Co-founder, Becky James, is particularly concerned by allegations that prisoners are being harvested for their organs in state-run military hospitals.
She believes more than 700 hospitals dotted across the Asian country are dedicated to the illegal trade, including in Bristol’s twin-city Guangzhou.
Fellow co-founder Alex Joseph, who addressed councillors on the matter at City Hall on September 11, said:
“There’s overwhelming evidence that forced organ harvesting on a mass scale is taking place in our sister city Guangzhou.''
“The Chinese state is systematically murdering prisoners of conscience for their organs.
“China brings promise of economic gain - but at what cost?”
In September 2018, the group presented Bristol City Council with a petition calling for the twinning arrangement to end.
