Former President Donald Trump will hold an outdoor rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Sunday, aiming to bolster his support in the crucial swing state ahead of the November 5 election. Polls currently indicate a favorable lean towards Trump in Nevada.

This event marks Trump’s first large-scale rally since a New York jury convicted him on May 30 for falsifying documents to conceal a payment to a porn star prior to the 2016 election. This conviction makes him the first former president to be found guilty of a crime.

On Thursday, Trump addressed a town hall meeting in Arizona, another pivotal battleground state. During this event, he discussed his plans to curb illegal immigration and attributed southern border issues to his Democratic opponent, President Joe Biden. According to a campaign statement, Trump’s Las Vegas speech will similarly emphasize immigration and critique the post-pandemic inflation surge under Biden’s administration.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts extreme heat for the rally, with temperatures expected to reach 97 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Celsius) when Trump takes the stage at noon local time, rising to 102 degrees by 3 p.m. In response, the Trump campaign has advised attendees to dress appropriately for the heat and stay hydrated. The campaign also announced the provision of water bottles, misting and cooling stations, and onsite medical staff to handle any emergencies.

The NWS has issued an excessive heat warning for Las Vegas, part of a broader heatwave affecting the U.S. Southwest. This warning is set to expire on Saturday evening, just ahead of the rally. These precautions aim to prevent incidents of heat exhaustion, like those that occurred at Trump’s Arizona event, where several people required hospitalization after enduring extreme heat for hours.

Nevada is among the critical swing states likely to influence the election outcome. A recent Fox News poll conducted after Trump’s conviction shows him leading Biden by five percentage points in Nevada. This lead aligns with an average of polls compiled by FiveThirtyEight, a poll tracking website.

Sunday’s rally follows a three-day fundraising tour by Trump, which included stops in San Francisco and Beverly Hills, where he raised millions of dollars from technology executives and other donors.
