Four Democratic Orange County legislators initially brought their concerns to fellow Democratic State Senator James Skoufis, chairman of the Senate Investigations Committee, who outlined what he said was corruption within the upper ranks of county government.

Skoufis, who asked the FBI and State Attorney General’s Office to investigate the controversy, secured the FBI’s involvement.

The attorney general has not responded to two requests for comment about whether that agency is also taking a look at the issues.

The sources have also said the FBI may cast a net wider than the information technology investigation and look at contracts and procurement throughout Orange County government.
