Ezi Magbegor, fresh off signing a contract extension through the 2025 season, showcased her talent with a dominant performance, leading the Seattle Storm to an 80-62 victory over the visiting Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday.
Seattle extended its winning streak to five games, while Phoenix suffered its fifth loss in the last six games.
Magbegor, an All-Star center entering her fifth WNBA season with the Storm, delivered an impressive stat line, recording 21 points and nine rebounds. Her impactful play helped secure the victory for Seattle.
The Storm seized control early in the game, taking the lead for good with a 12-0 run that gave them a 14-4 advantage midway through the first quarter. Magbegor played a significant role in this run, contributing six points.
Seattle’s dominance continued throughout the game, with the Storm building a commanding 38-18 lead in the second quarter, fueled by an 11-0 run highlighted by Skylar Diggins-Smith’s contributions.
Jewell Loyd and Victoria Vivians also made notable contributions for the Storm, with Loyd tallying 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Vivians added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Despite a brief resurgence from Phoenix before halftime, Seattle maintained its lead, limiting the Mercury’s offensive opportunities. Phoenix star Diana Taurasi struggled to find her rhythm, finishing with just seven points on a challenging shooting night.
Phoenix faced difficulties on both ends of the court, shooting just 33.8 percent from the field and struggling from beyond the arc, making only 4 of 23 attempts. Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with 19 points, but her efforts were not enough to overcome Seattle’s strong performance.
Seattle’s solid defensive effort and efficient scoring propelled them to victory, as they held Phoenix at bay for the remainder of the game, securing another impressive win for the Storm.
