Ukraine’s air force announced that Russia launched a significant aerial attack involving 28 attack drones and three cruise missiles targeting Ukraine overnight. According to the air force’s statement on Telegram, the focus of the attack was primarily on the south and eastern regions of Ukraine. The fate of the three cruise missiles was not specified in the report.

Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat, speaking on national television, highlighted a shift in the Russian offensive strategy, with the Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk regions experiencing drone attacks. There has been no immediate response from Russia regarding these claims.

Dnipropetrovsk regional authorities, through a Telegram post, disclosed that 12 individuals were injured in a drone attack in the city of Dnipro. The attack also caused damage to several structures, including an educational institution and its dormitory, two residential buildings, and an administrative building.

Ihnat remarked that the majority of the drones were neutralized by mobile teams, which helped conserve the “scarce” air defense missiles. He noted that Ukrainian forces had utilized some missiles to counter two recent major Russian assaults and that efforts were ongoing to ensure Ukraine has sufficient missiles to defend against aerial threats.

The recent attacks are part of a broader pattern of Russian offensives using aerial assets. Towards the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, Russia reportedly deployed almost 300 missiles and over 200 drones in various attacks across Ukraine.
