New House Speaker Mike Johnson’s Faith and Priorities

New House Speaker Mike Johnson’s Faith and Priorities

By Gloria Ogbonna

In a recent development, Mike Johnson, the newly elected House Speaker from Louisiana, made a powerful statement about the role of faith and providence in his victory.

After a unanimous GOP vote, Johnson emphasized that he believes there are no coincidences in life and that he sees a divine hand in his speakership win. He spoke passionately about his belief in God’s plan for not only his life but also the lives of his fellow lawmakers.

Johnson went on to state that he doesn’t consider it a coincidence that each member of the House is in their current position, as he believes in a higher purpose.

Speaker Johnson: "I believe that scripture and the Bible is very clear that God is the one that raised up each of you and God has allowed us to be brought here to this specific moment in time."

He underlined the responsibility they all have to utilize the gifts they’ve been given to serve the people of the country and to ensure that the United States remains a beacon of hope and freedom in the world.

Furthermore, Johnson pledged to introduce a bill aimed at providing additional funds for Israel’s defense against the Hamas terror organization. He strongly condemned the actions of Hamas and expressed the intent to stand for the right side of the conflict.

Notably, this unanimous vote marks the first such unanimous election since 2011 when former Rep. John Boehner was elected as Speaker of the House. Johnson’s ascent to the position of Speaker represents a significant transition from his previous role as the vice chairman of the House Republican Conference, and he is now the 56th Speaker of the House.
