The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is poised to hand over an extensive collection of documents from former Vice President Joe Biden’s tenure, totaling 62,000 pages, to the House Oversight Committee. This development was confirmed by a source to the Daily Caller and initially reported by Fox News. The collection prominently includes emails which are believed to have been sent using pseudonyms by Biden for government-related communications.
The House Oversight Chairman, James Comer, penned a letter to NARA in August, explicitly requesting access to records that pertain to the apparent aliases used by then-Vice President Biden. Comer further expanded his inquiry, seeking records of correspondence between Joe Biden’s staffers and Hunter Biden, along with his business associates, underscoring the committee’s broadened scope of investigation.
In an October status report, NARA disclosed the identification of 82,000 potentially responsive records linked to Joe Biden’s alleged use of aliases. Additionally, the agency informed the Heritage Foundation in November that it possesses 731 potentially responsive files in relation to the creation of the email addresses.
Prior to Comer’s August request, NARA had identified more than 5,000 emails tied to the aliases. In September, members of the Oversight Committee were allowed to view a fraction of these records, including emails praising Joe Biden and his late son, Beau.
Comer criticized the Biden White House for its alleged lack of cooperation in document production to the Oversight Committee. He claimed this non-cooperation was evident even after two IRS whistleblowers provided information suggesting Joe Biden used an alias as Vice President for direct communication with Hunter Biden’s business associate. Comer’s statement followed President Biden’s denial of interacting with his family’s business associates, calling it “a bunch of lies” in response to a question from a New York Post reporter.
The House Ways and Means Committee released documents on Tuesday after hearing testimony from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler. These whistleblowers have made allegations of special treatment given to Hunter Biden during the DOJ investigation into his tax and firearms possession cases.
Witness testimony has confirmed key allegations made by the IRS whistleblowers, as outlined in a report released by House Republicans.
Email metadata released by the Ways and Means Committee shows then-Vice President Joe Biden used one of his aliases to communicate with Hunter Biden’s business associate Eric Schwerin. The pair exchanged over 50 emails, coinciding with Biden’s 2014 trip to Ukraine. The content of these emails was not disclosed in the Committee’s documents.
A separate email from May 2016 on Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop archive appears to show Joe Biden used a different alias for a scheduled meeting with Ukraine’s then-President Petro Poroshenko. Hunter Biden had joined the board of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma in spring 2014, prior to his father’s trip. Bank records show that Burisma paid Hunter Biden over $80,000 per month as a board member.
President Biden denied any communication with his son’s business associates after delivering a speech on Wednesday, despite evidence suggesting otherwise.
Hunter Biden’s former business associates, Devon Archer, Rob Walker, and Tony Bobulinski, have recalled interactions Joe Biden apparently had with his son’s business associates in addition to themselves. Further indications of Joe Biden’s communication with Hunter’s business partners while vice president have been found in emails, images, White House visitor logs, testimony, and media reports.
An email from Hunter’s laptop shows a meeting between Joe Biden and Burisma executive Vadim Pozharskyi in spring 2015, a detail recalled by Archer in his testimony. Archer also mentioned the “Biden family brand” protecting Burisma from scrutiny.
Despite these revelations, Joe Biden has insisted on the falsity of such claims, as seen during a confrontation with Fox News reporter Peter Doocy. Hunter Biden’s attorneys have maintained that Joe Biden was not involved with his son’s business dealings, a stance echoed by the White House.
Tucker Carlson interviewed Archer post-testimony, revealing a personalized letter from Joe Biden to Archer in 2011. Archer also stated to Carlson that it was “categorically false” to claim Joe Biden was unaware of his son’s business dealings.
Comer has issued subpoenas to Hunter Biden and his former business associates for closed-door depositions and threatened Hunter with contempt of Congress for non-compliance, as reported here. Hunter’s attorney offered a public testimony alternative, which House Republicans rejected.
As of publication, NARA had not responded to requests for comment.
