Kari Lake Urges Resignation of Arizona GOP Chair Jeff DeWit Over Alleged Bribery Attempt

Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake calls for the resignation of GOP Chair Jeff DeWit following a leaked audio recording suggesting a bribery offer to exit politics.

Arizona GOP Senate candidate Kari Lake has demanded the resignation of the state’s Republican Party chair, Jeff DeWit, after an audio recording was released by The Daily Mail. The recording allegedly captures a conversation between Ms. Lake and Mr. DeWit, where he appears to offer her money to leave politics for two years. The offer, according to the recording, came from “powerful people” who wanted Ms. Lake to stay out of the Senate race.

In a recent interview with an NBC reporter, Ms. Lake stated, “He’s got to resign. We can’t have somebody who’s corrupt and compromised running the Republican Party.” This statement came just before former President Donald Trump’s appearance at his New Hampshire primary victory party.

The leaked recording, dating back to March of last year, reveals Mr. DeWit suggesting that these unnamed powerful figures were willing to pay Ms. Lake to avoid participating in the Senate race for two years. Ms. Lake firmly rejected the proposal, emphasizing her alliance with President Trump in fighting corruption in Washington, D.C.

In the conversation, Ms. Lake expressed her disbelief and frustration at the offer, stating her incredulity that these figures would prefer to pay her off rather than support her candidacy. Mr. DeWit countered by suggesting the motive behind the offer was the ability to raise funds for elections, rather than control or an agenda.

Despite Mr. DeWit’s multiple attempts to convince her, Ms. Lake remained adamant that her decision was not about money but the welfare of the country. She repeatedly refused the offer, stating that she could not be bought for any amount, even a billion dollars.

In response to the leaked audio, Ms. Lake emphasized her desire to eliminate corruption from government, irrespective of political affiliation. She expressed her admiration for President Trump’s stance against corruption and her commitment to returning the government to the people.

This incident was first hinted at by Ms. Lake last March when she mentioned that she had been offered a bribe by “some powerful people back east” to withdraw from the Senate race. The audio recording has now been made public ten months later, preceding the state party’s annual meeting scheduled for Saturday.
