Hunter Biden Allegedly Paid $1 Million for Non-Existent Legal Services by Chinese Business Associate

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, was reportedly paid $1 million for legal services that he never provided, according to new documents. These services were allegedly related to his former Chinese business associate, Patrick Ho.

In September 2017, Ho and Hunter Biden signed an attorney engagement letter, where Ho agreed to pay $1 million as a retainer for future legal services, as per the engagement letter released by the House Ways and Means Committee on December 5.

Ho, a former executive at the defunct Chinese infrastructure firm CEFC, was arrested in November 2017 on bribery charges linked to his work at CEFC. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York prosecuted Ho. However, Hunter Biden was not listed as an attorney on record for Ho’s case, as stated by IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler in an affidavit.

Ziegler’s statement highlighted that Hunter Biden was not involved as an attorney in Ho’s case, raising questions about the legitimacy of the $1 million payment. This payment was made to Hunter Biden and his entity Owasco LLC on March 22, 2018, shortly before Hunter Biden went to California.

An email from October 2017 shows a Chinese business associate sending the signed engagement letter to Hunter Biden, James Biden, and Sara Biden.

Retainer fees are typically advanced payments for future services, as explained by Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute. The engagement letter specified that Hunter Biden would reimburse Ho if he did not provide services worth $1 million, including legal consultations and document reviews.

Ho received a three-year prison sentence in March 2019 for his role in an international bribery scheme. CEFC Chairman Ye Jianming was arrested in 2018 on bribery suspicions, as reported by Chinese media.

Hunter Biden admitted to earning nearly $1 million in 2017 through his business with CEFC associates. He likened Ye Jianming to CCP leader Xi Jinping when introducing him to James Biden, according to a memo from the Ways and Means Committee.

The indictment against Hunter Biden in California for nine tax-related charges details the $1 million payment through Hudson West III. This payment was transferred to Hunter Biden’s Owasco LLC, purportedly for legal representation of Ho.

Hunter Biden’s legal team has contested these charges, arguing that they would not have been brought if his last name were not Biden. Despite these controversies, Hunter Biden remains in good standing with the Washington, D.C., bar, and he faces separate indictments on federal gun charges.

House Republicans are currently investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings as part of a broader impeachment inquiry into President Biden. This inquiry includes scrutiny of over $24 million received by the Biden family from foreign sources over five years.
