The Komodo dragon is a giant lizard found only on a handful of islands in the Indonesian archipelago. Komodo dragons are a species of Monitor lizard that evolved in isolation on the island for millions of years, so they became so prominent.
So, How to draw a komodo dragon?
Follow these five steps below to create your Komodo dragon sketch:
Step 1: Draw two circles as a guide for the Komodo dragon's body. Processes don't have to be perfect. Komodo dragons have long bodies, so don't place the circles too close together. The distance between the two circles should be the same width as the first circle. Place the second circle a little lower. Draw two curved lines connecting the two processes to complete the Komodo dragon's body tutorial. Draw another ring in the upper left to serve as a guide for the Komodo dragon's head. This circle should be about a third of the size of the first one.
Step 2: Draw a long arc on the left side of the head to guide the Komodo dragon's snout. Draw a few more lines to show the Komodo dragon's neck and tail. Several lines connecting the head to the body form the channel. Draw a long line on the right side of the body to make the tail. Draw three short, angled lines under the body as guides for the Komodo dragon's feet.
Step 3: Draw a minor soccer ball-like shape for the Komodo dragon eye on the top part of the arc next to the circle's edge. Draw a bold dot in the center of the eye to make the pupil. Draw a few lines around the eyes for more details. Draw a few curved lines above and below the eyes to create skin folds and smaller lines to create scales. Above the eyes, draw two longer bumps for the outer structure of the eye. Draw the Komodo dragon's snout using the arc as a guide. Darken the top of the muzzle, then draw a long wavy line extending towards the small circle for the mouth. Draw the lower jaw by following the baseline of the bottom part of the arc. Leave a small hole in the front. Draw the nostrils and tongue in front of the muzzle. The blade consists of two curves ending at two points to create the forked sword of the Komodo dragon.
Step 4: Use the small circle as a guide to drawing the rest of the Komodo dragon's head. Darken the top and bottom of the circle and make it flatter to create a long lead. Draw a few lines inside the charge for the wrinkles. Draw a thick line on the right side of the eye to make the ear hole. Use the lines on the left as a guide to drawing the Komodo dragon's front paws. Lightly outline the shape of the first leg as you follow the path. Once you understand the structure of the portion correctly, darken the lines. Use curved lines as you draw your legs to show muscle structure. Draw a few lines at the joints for the folds of the skin. Draw the digits in front with a series of short lines. Draw claws at the end of the numbers. Draw the foot on the other side using the other line as a guide. Outline it gently as you follow the path of the direction, and darken the lines as you get the structure right. Draw the claw at the end.
Step 5: Use the right line as a guide to drawing the hind legs using the same technique. Draw an extra curved line inside the original circle as you lightly sketch the structure. This is the bend of the top of the leg. Darken the lines and draw a few more tight joints or loose skin. Draw the Komodo dragon's toes at the end. Draw the hind leg on the other side. Draw only the bottom part because most are hidden behind the body. Use the original circles and seams as a guide to drawing the rest of the Komodo dragon's body. Darken the lines as you follow the original shapes. Draw a few lines inside the dragon's body to add details to the loose skin. Draw these lines with curved strokes instead of a rigid straight line for a more natural feel. Use the right line as a guide to drawing the long and thick tail of the Komodo dragon. Lightly draw two curved lines that come to a point as you follow the path of the guide, then darken the shape.
