French striker Olivier Giroud confirmed on Monday that he will be leaving AC Milan to join Major League Soccer (MLS) once his contract expires this summer.
Previous reports had suggested that the 37-year-old, a former World Cup champion, intends to link up with his compatriot Hugo Lloris at LAFC.
In an interview published on AC Milan’s official channels, Giroud stated, “The next two games will be my last for Milan. My career will continue in MLS. I’m very proud of everything I’ve achieved here at Milan over the past three seasons. It feels like the right time to make this announcement. My journey with Milan may be ending this year, but Milan will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Giroud, the all-time leading goal scorer for France, has netted 57 goals in 131 matches for his national team. He played a crucial role in helping Les Bleus secure victory in the 2018 World Cup final against Croatia.
During his time at AC Milan this season, Giroud has scored 14 goals. Throughout his professional career, he has amassed a total of 285 goals in 716 matches and has claimed 13 trophies across his stints with AC Milan, Chelsea (2018-21), Arsenal (2012-18), and various clubs in his native France.
