Former CIA Director Michael Hayden Faces Backlash for Controversial Comment About Sen. Tommy Tuberville

WASHINGTON (yourNEWS) – Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA and NSA and a retired Air Force general, has stirred controversy with his recent remarks on X about Republican Sen. Hayden currently serves as an adviser for NewsGuard, an organization that evaluates the credibility of news sources. The platform is often criticized for its perceived bias towards left-leaning, corporate-owned media outlets and targeting of right-leaning websites.Following Hayden’s comment, a slew of criticisms were aimed at him. Some highlighted that Hayden had previously endorsed a letter dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop issue as “Russian disinformation” and had supported claims of Russia’s collusion with Donald Trump’s campaign.

Donald Trump Jr. took to social media to criticize Hayden, writing:

The former Director of CIA, who lied to the world about Hunter's laptop being Russian disinformation and disgraced himself even before that when, as head of NSA, he pioneered warrantless surveillance in the US — now wants to assassinate a US Senator. cc: @ElonMusk @Safety pic.twitter.com/b6TA0Xn4UZ

Hayden’s comments seem to breach X’s policy against “violent speech,” which disallows expressions that include “wish of harm.” Despite this and the growing backlash, Hayden reinforced his stance in a subsequent post:

I was surprised to wake up this morning and discover that many MAGAnuts had lost their minds over my suggestion that “Coach” Tuberville not be considered a member of the human race. I stand by that view. I’m wishing you all a nice day even the intransigent Tommy Tuberville.

At the heart of the controversy surrounding Sen. Tuberville is his recent move to block the Senate’s blanket confirmation of approximately 300 of the Biden administration’s senior military officer promotions. Tuberville’s resistance stems from the Biden Pentagon’s policy that funds service members’ travel to obtain abortions. The senator contends that this policy breaches the Hyde Amendment, which restricts the federal government from funding abortions, except under specific circumstances. While the blanket confirmation has been halted, several individual promotions have been recently confirmed by the Senate.
