The Calgary Flames finalized three-year, $2.925 million entry-level contracts for their first-round draft picks Zayne Parekh and Matvei Gridin on Friday.
Each contract holds an average annual value of $975,000.
Parekh, an 18-year-old Canadian chosen ninth overall in last month’s NHL draft, made headlines with Saginaw Spirit by setting records for goals (33) and points (96) among Ontario Hockey League defensemen in 66 regular-season games. His impressive season included 10 power-play goals, two short-handed goals, and six game-winners. Parekh also contributed 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 13 OHL playoff games, aiding Saginaw in capturing the Memorial Cup.
Gridin, an 18-year-old Russian selected 28th overall, showcased his talents last season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL, leading the league in scoring with 83 points (38 goals, 45 assists) over 60 games. Standing at 6-foot-2, Gridin is slated to join the University of Michigan for the upcoming season.
