Filip Forsberg’s overtime heroics secured a 3-2 victory for the Nashville Predators over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. The win marked Nashville’s fifth triumph in six games, with Juuse Saros making 38 saves in his fifth consecutive victory.
Gustav Nyquist and Michael McCarron also found the net for the Predators, while Sean Couturier and Travis Sanheim scored for the Flyers, whose four-game winning streak came to an end. Samuel Ersson, in goal for Philadelphia, had his four-game win streak halted despite making 18 saves.
In the post-game analysis, Predators coach Andrew Brunette acknowledged that it wasn’t their best performance but commended the team for gutting it out. Flyers coach John Tortorella praised his team, stating that they were good despite the loss.
The decisive moment came in overtime when Forsberg capitalized on a rebound to score just 18 seconds into the extra period. This marked Forsberg’s second first-minute overtime goal in two weeks.
Nyquist opened the scoring for Nashville in the first period, redirecting a shot past Ersson. McCarron doubled the lead in the second period during a delayed penalty, while Couturier and Sanheim scored for the Flyers to force a tie.
The Flyers outshot Nashville in the first period, but Saros’ stellar performance denied them on all four power-play opportunities. McCarron highlighted the team’s determination to win for Saros, who made crucial saves throughout the game.
Looking ahead, the Flyers will host the Washington Capitals on Thursday, while the Predators will visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
