Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin strongly criticized President Joe Biden’s border security policies after reports emerged of multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) found at the U.S.-Mexico border. Mexican authorities discovered ten IEDs near Tucson, Arizona, around the same time a border patrol agent arrested an individual with a loaded AK-47 rifle, as reported by Fox Business.

Senator Johnson, speaking to Fox Business host Larry Kudlow, labeled the Biden administration’s border policy as a “clear and present danger to America,” accusing the President of preferring an open border. He asserted that the Democrats’ approach to border security is not earnest, contrasting it with the policies of former President Trump, who, according to Johnson, significantly controlled the border using existing laws before Title 42 was implemented.

Data from the United States Customs and Border Protection indicates that over 188,000 illegal immigrants were encountered at the border in October, following more than 2 million encounters in fiscal year 2023. Johnson emphasized that President Biden, if serious about enhancing border security, would seek additional authority from Congress, which he has not done.

In the backdrop of these security concerns, Democratic Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland reportedly told the Daily Caller News Foundation that funding for Ukraine is a higher priority than border security. This statement comes amid disputes between Republicans and Democrats over Biden’s request for aid to Ukraine and Israel.

Senator Johnson urged his fellow lawmakers not to be complacent and to demand stringent border security. He stressed that mere policy changes are insufficient and that effective implementation is crucial to ensuring a secure border, in contrast to the current perceived open border policy of the Biden administration.
