Alex Kirilloff’s three-run homer sparks a comeback for the Twins, propelling them past the struggling Rangers

Alex Kirilloff’s three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Minnesota Twins to a 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers in the second game of their three-game series on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis, Minn.

Twins starter Chris Paddack put in a solid performance, allowing two runs and four hits over five innings. He struck out three batters and didn’t issue any walks.

Cole Sands (2-0) provided two innings of scoreless relief, while Jhoan Duran closed out the ninth inning for his sixth save. The win marks the Twins’ fourth consecutive victory after enduring a seven-game losing streak.

On the Rangers’ side, starter Michael Lorenzen pitched six innings, giving up one run and three hits. He struck out four batters and walked three.

Ezequiel Duran contributed with a home run, and Leody Taveras had two hits and an RBI for the Rangers, who have now lost six games in a row and 12 of their last 14.

In the seventh inning, Lorenzen left the game due to discomfort in his lower body after throwing a few warm-up pitches.

The Twins capitalized on the situation in the eighth inning, with Kirilloff’s homer off David Robertson (2-2) securing the lead for Minnesota.

The game began with the Twins taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ryan Jeffers drew a bases-loaded walk. The Rangers responded with Adolis Garcia’s ground-rule double in the fourth inning, tying the score at 1-1.

Duran’s homer in the fifth inning gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead, which was extended to 3-1 in the sixth inning when Taveras drove in a run with a double.
