NEWBURGH – Long awaited plans to tear town a former school building at 191 Washington Street in the City of Newburgh and construct 70 units or workforce housing and an adjacent brewery, are about to get underway.
The approval process has taken over a year-and-a-half, which is not uncommon in the city, said Mayor Torrance Harvey.
“We approved 15 South Colden Street back in 2019. It drives me nuts how long things take between getting through the land use boards, making sure everything is good with the historic district, if they are in the historic district. There is so much that goes on even before they put shovels in the grounds.”
The good news, the mayor said, is there are a half-dozen housing projects in various approval stages at the present time.
