“Conservative Influencer” Lindy Li’s Ties to the CCP Go Deeper than We Knew

In a recent investigation, Restoration News reported on a Democratic fundraiser who suddenly switched to the Make America Great Again universe after Election Day, while raising concerns about her connections to communist officials from China. New research has revealed further connections that raise significant questions for her involvement with conservative influencers—and for national security.

Lindy Li fashions herself as a new warrior for truth, justice, and the American way, a jarring contrast from her recent work for the Democratic National Committee (DNC). That work included fundraising—to the tune of tens of millions of dollars—and a significant social media presence in which she acted as an attack dog against Donald Trump and conservative ideals.

Lindy Li has parlayed her conservative conversion into regular appearances on Newsmax, including Lara Trump’s show. But her many pro-China activities should have set off alarm bells.

Protesting for the Motherland

Images from a protest have recently resurfaced that show Lindy Li demonstrating in favor of the Chinese government—and against the United States.

In 2018, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified in Congress that Chinese students in American colleges and universities posed a serious threat to national security, as many of them functioned as spies for the CCP. This has been known since at least the 1960s, but it has bubbled under the surface mostly unnoticed.

When Wray gave his testimony about the Confucius Institutes, it caused a backlash among some in the Chinese-American community. A pro-China activist, Guan Bihong, organized a protest in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

As internet sleuth and anti-CCP activist Solomon Yue revealed in his X post above, Lindy Li spoke out against the “slander” of China at this protest—undermining her new claims that she has always spoken out against the government of China.

Guan Bihong has a long history of pro-China agitation in America, and he counts Li and her family among his friends in the greater Philadelphia area. Bihong’s bio includes a litany of protests against America while taking advantage of this nation’s educational system. He emigrated to the United States in 1988 to get a master’s degree, while simultaneously creating pro-China professional organizations and non-profits. One of his proudest moments, according to his bio, came when he “personally presided over the grand ceremony of raising the Chinese flag and the parade to celebrate China’s ‘October 1st’ National Day held in Independence Square in Philadelphia, USA . . . more than 1,000 overseas Chinese participated in this event.” Bihong received plaudits for this event from the Chinese government:

Ambassador Qiu Shengyun, the Chinese Consul General in New York, who was invited to attend the flag-raising event, praised: “The Chinese in Philadelphia have created ‘two firsts’: the first time the five-star red flag was raised in Independence Square, and the first time a grand parade was held on the streets of Philadelphia to celebrate the National Day of the People’s Republic of China.” 

Chinese National Day on October 1 is an official holiday commemorating the formal establishment of the People’s Republic of China by Mao Zedong, who was responsible for the murders of tens of millions in the country’s communist revolution.

Lindy Li’s “Conservative” Conversion

A short time after Donald Trump decisively defeated Kamala Harris in 2024, Li did a 180, claiming that President-elect Trump had added her as a fundraising for his Inauguration. Her X post from March 25 is typical of the new image she’s created for herself.

She has a series of social media posts and appearances on right-leaning podcasts in which she claims to spill the tea—telling anyone who would listen that the cocaine found in the White House belonged to Hunter Biden, Joe Biden had severe age-related cognitive impairments, and the Harris campaign lied to donors about their internal polling. She appears regularly on Newsmax to tell their audience what they’d like to hear.

Titillating, but not exactly revelatory, as all those facts were well-known or at least strongly suspected for months.

Li likes to claim she’s faced harassment from both the Right and the Left for her conversion, currying sympathy from the show hosts. Perhaps because, as Restoration News revealed in the first entry in this series, her new conversion to the MAGA world rings hollow:

For someone who left China before kindergarten and became an American, Li has a lot to say about the nation of her birth. In a recent talk, Li made the provocative claims that “China is not the enemy,” and “the defining relationship in the 21st century is a Sino-American one.” She bemoans the “China-bashing” that happens every four years in the American presidential election cycle, saying candidates have to “rile up” their voters with “fearmongering.”

Her appearances in conservative media generally lack substance, as she relies on talking points and identity politics over deep policy analysis—tactics that folks on the Right generally say they dislike.

Li’s Long March of Attacking Trump and Defending China

Lindy Li has not bothered to scrub her social media accounts of her outspoken attacks on Donald Trump and Republican voters. Her conversion rings hollow given her previously stated beliefs in the most radical of leftist policies.

Some more provocative examples include:

• In 2020, the Philadelphia Inquirer published an article detailing Lindy Li claiming to be a victim of “Bernie Bro’ bullying” and submitting her resignation from the PA Young Democrats after seeking the endorsement of a local Democrat socialist group. Li posted a photo of herself online with Bernie Sanders in May 2018, ten days before she finished 6 out of 10 candidates in the Democrat primary of Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional district.
• On December 13, 2021 Li tweeted in support of vaccine mandates calling religious exemptions for vaccines “BS and just an excuse for selfish morons to buck public health mandates.”
• On February 19, 2023, Li posted on X praising former President Jimmy Carter as a “real Christian” while condemning conservatives as “fake Christians” and referring to President Trump as “Orange Jesus.”
• In April 2023, Lindy Li appeared on CNN’s Newsroom to defend the abortion pill and slam conservative judges and lawmakers who have supported what she called “pro-forced birth policies.”
• In a 2023 article which labeled Lindy Li as a “senior Democrat,” she made outrageous claims that CPAC is a “gathering of sexual predators” and accused President Trump of being a “serial rapist.”
• On X on July 14, 2023, she referred to the pro-life movement as the “biggest scam in American politics.

Li has made multiple claims that she “f***ing hates the CCP,” that she has spoken out against Xi Jinping, and that she has condemned the Chinese government. Her words and deeds say the opposite. In a February post on X, Solomon Yue detailed her duplicitous statements. He noted that Li went to China to attend an event conducted by the CCP’s state media, the Sino-US Leadership Training Camp for young American. Yue goes into great detail explaining Li’s extensive connections to figures from China’s United Front, which organizes intel-gathering operations by Chinese nationals living abroad, including throughout the United States.

We Have a China Problem

Retired Col. Lawrence Sellin, an Army special forces veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has exposed several public American figures with questionable ties to Chinese government officials. Sellin posted recently about the Chinese government’s efforts to “install pro-CCP politicians” into public office.

Two active-duty members of the U.S. Army recently got arrested for passing military information to China.

According to Sellin, China continues to exert pressure on elected officials.

And, Sellin has helped expose Lindy Li’s deep ties to Chinese officials.

All this raises fresh questions, given the disturbing pattern of arrests of government officials for passing secrets to the Chinese, as happened in February with Linda Sun, who worked as an aide to both Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) and Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY). Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) have had similar run-ins with Chinese spies.

Given the extensive efforts by the CCP to infiltrate American society and send sensitive information back to the mainland, it is wholly reasonable from a national security perspective to question the motives of anyone who has connections to Chinese government officials. The fact that the Right has failed to do so while some influencers continue to fall under the spell of Lindy Li’s personal conversion story should cause alarm bells to ring.

Instead, Li still seems to get a free pass.
