During an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report” aired Thursday, DOGE’s Elon Musk pushed back against criticisms of the department’s spending, emphasizing that its goal is to eliminate waste and fraud while ensuring taxpayer money is spent appropriately.

Musk stated that DOGE keeps Congress informed about its activities and that avoiding wasteful expenditures is not contrary to Congress but rather aligned with the law.
Host Bret Baier questioned Musk about DOGE’s relationship with Congress, asking whether lawmakers still play a role in overseeing the department’s financial decisions.
Musk responded by affirming that while DOGE keeps Congress updated, the law clearly states that money must be spent correctly and not wasted or misused.
“We try to keep Congress as informed as possible,” Musk explained. “But the law does say that money needs to be spent correctly. It should not be spent fraudulently or wastefully. It’s not contrary to Congress to avoid waste and fraud. It is consistent with the law and consistent with Congress.”
Musk also noted that DOGE has received strong support from Republican lawmakers, as well as occasional backing from some Democrats. He expressed appreciation for bipartisan cooperation, saying, “It’s nice to see people cross the aisle once in a while.”
Addressing criticisms of DOGE’s spending, Musk argued that detractors often fail to cite specific issues with the department’s cost-saving measures. He claimed that opponents resort to broad accusations of illegality or unconstitutionality but fail to challenge individual spending decisions.
“Usually, when they attack DOGE, they never attack any of the specifics,” Musk stated. “They’ll say what we’re doing is somehow unconstitutional or illegal or whatever. We’re, like, well, which line of the cost savings do you disagree with? And they can’t point to any.”
Musk further highlighted DOGE’s commitment to transparency, pointing out that detailed spending records are publicly available on doge.gov and on the department’s official X account.
He encouraged people to examine the records themselves, claiming that they would find “one outrageous thing after another” when it comes to previous wasteful spending practices that DOGE is working to correct.
Musk’s comments reflect an ongoing debate over government spending, oversight, and accountability. While his department’s efforts to cut costs and eliminate fraud have won praise from some lawmakers, others remain skeptical about DOGE’s financial decisions.
The lack of specific criticisms from opponents, as Musk pointed out, raises questions about whether resistance to DOGE is based on policy disagreements or broader political motivations.
As DOGE continues to implement its reforms, the battle over government efficiency, congressional oversight, and taxpayer dollars is likely far from over. Whether Musk’s transparency efforts will satisfy critics—or further fuel political tensions—remains to be seen.
