Former First Lady Melania Trump has declined an invitation to meet with current First Lady Jill Biden for tea and a White House tour, with sources offering conflicting reasons for her decision. The invitation, part of a customary gesture to facilitate the peaceful transition of power, coincides with President-elect Donald Trump’s meeting with President Joe Biden in the Oval Office.
One source close to Melania Trump attributed her decision to lingering resentment over the 2022 FBI raid of the Trumps’ Mar-a-Lago residence, during which agents searched her wardrobe and other private areas. “Jill Biden’s husband authorized the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer,” the source claimed. “The Bidens are disgusting.”
However, another source told CNN that Melania’s decision stemmed from a prior scheduling conflict related to her recently released memoir. According to the report, her team encouraged her to reconsider, emphasizing the importance of the symbolic meeting, but as of now, no final decision has been made.
Melania Trump previously expressed her anger over the FBI raid, calling it an “invasion of privacy” in a Fox News interview. “I saw unpleasant stuff that nobody wants to see,” she said. “And you get angry because, you know, nobody should be putting up with that kind of stuff.” The raid also involved searches of her husband’s office and the rooms of her teenage son, Barron.
Traditionally, the meeting between the first ladies signals a commitment to a smooth transfer of power. In 2016, Melania Trump toured the White House with then-First Lady Michelle Obama following Donald Trump’s election victory. However, in 2020, the Trumps declined to host Joe and Jill Biden amid disputes over the election results.
The current transition will proceed with the president-elect and President Biden scheduled to meet at 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Whether the first ladies will meet remains uncertain as Melania Trump reportedly weighs her options. Newsmax has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
