Home repairs taught at Brewster High School

BREWSTER – Students enrolled in Glen Palmieri’s Home Repair Class at Brewster High School are learning much more than the proper use of tools.

Lessons center on hinges, door jams and insets as well as using a ruler, the proper use of a screwdriver, drill, deadbolt kit and hammer.

Palmieri explained the basic knowledge of tools found around the home could save a family upwards of $300 for the cost of a handyman.

The teenagers got to work resulting in the creation of a lock and Palmieri was impressed. “Some students had previously worked with me when teaching at the Henry Wells Middle School. Others had helped out at home with repairs and renovations, while some had no prior experience.”

The class will be studying all sorts of home repairs over the course of the semester including plumbing, electrical, sweating pipes and fixing screens.

“What an incredible host of skills these students will have in their life tool box,” Palmieri said.
