Kamala Harris Campaign Remains Silent on Amnesty Plan for Millions of Illegal Immigrants

Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has refused to provide details about her plan to offer amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, despite repeated promises during her speeches and past campaign platforms.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign for the presidency is withholding details about her proposed amnesty plan for the millions of illegal immigrants residing in the United States. Despite pledging for months to create an “earned pathway to citizenship” for between 11 to 22 million undocumented individuals, her campaign has declined to elaborate on specifics when pressed by reporters.

In August, during her speech at the Democrat National Convention (DNC), Harris reiterated her commitment to amnesty, claiming that the U.S. must “live up to our proud heritage” by offering citizenship to millions of illegal aliens. Her rhetoric echoed statements she made during her 2019 run for the Democratic presidential nomination, where her platform detailed a sweeping executive action plan to provide visas, green cards, and ultimately, a path to citizenship.

Harris’s 2019 platform, archived online, stated:
“As president, Harris will take executive action to keep immigrant families together and eliminate barriers that prevent Dreamers from accessing a path to U.S. citizenship.”

The campaign estimated that her plan would protect over 6 million immigrants from deportation, add up to $445 billion to the U.S. economy over ten years, and provide citizenship to the country’s 2.1 million Dreamers, if they meet the necessary legal grounds for status adjustment.

However, when Axios asked the Harris campaign if she plans to pursue the same executive actions today, her spokesperson declined to offer specifics. Ian Sams, a Harris campaign spokesperson, stated, “The vice president has fought for Dreamers throughout her career and is proud of the actions taken under her and President Biden to expand protections for them.”

Despite her record, Harris is facing criticism over her role in managing the surge of illegal immigration in recent years. A New York Times/Siena College poll recently found that a majority of likely voters blame Harris for the record levels of illegal immigration over the past three and a half years.

In 2021, President Joe Biden appointed Harris to lead the administration’s efforts to address migration at the U.S.-Mexico border. Since then, media outlets and lawmakers have frequently referred to her as the administration’s “border czar,” a label that has intensified scrutiny of her immigration policies.

With growing pressure for transparency regarding her amnesty plans, the silence from Harris’s campaign is likely to remain a contentious issue in the months leading up to the 2024 election.
