Jane’s Addiction has abruptly canceled the remaining dates of their tour following a dramatic on-stage incident in Boston, Massachusetts. The band, which originated in Los Angeles, cut their performance short on Friday night after a physical altercation between frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro. The altercation reportedly began when Farrell, 65, threw a punch at Navarro, 57, during the concert at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion.
A statement released on the band’s social media on Monday announced the decision to “take some time away as a group,” following the incident. The band also confirmed that refunds for the canceled tour dates will be available at the point of purchase. The tour was slated to include 12 more U.S. dates, concluding in Los Angeles on October 16.
Footage from the concert showed Farrell and Navarro in a heated exchange, with Farrell striking Navarro before being restrained by security and escorted off stage. Farrell’s wife, Etty, has since revealed that there had been “mounting tension and animosity” among the band members in the lead-up to the confrontation. She cited frustration with the band’s performance volume as a contributing factor.
Jane’s Addiction, formed in 1985, is celebrated for their role in pioneering the alternative rock genre. The band, also featuring drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery, recently reunited after a decade apart. Their influential discography includes albums like “Nothing’s Shocking” (1988) and “Ritual De Lo Habitual” (1990). In 2013, the band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking their impact on rock music.
