The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued an urgent public health warning concerning a salmonella outbreak linked to eggs sold in stores and restaurants across Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
The source of the contamination has been traced to Milo’s Poultry Farms LLC, which has now initiated a widespread recall of their eggs.
On Friday, September 6, Milo’s Poultry Farms recalled all varieties of their chicken eggs, including cage-free and organic options.
The recall affects all carton sizes and cases labeled with “Milo’s Poultry Farm” or “Tony’s Fresh Market,” regardless of the expiration date.
So far, 65 people across multiple states have reported illness due to the salmonella strain associated with the eggs. Of these cases, 24 individuals have required hospitalization.
While the majority of cases have been concentrated in Wisconsin and Illinois, nine states have reported illnesses linked to the outbreak.
Consumers are advised to take immediate action if they have purchased eggs covered by the recall. The CDC urges the public not to consume these eggs and to dispose of them immediately.
Furthermore, any surfaces or items that may have come into contact with the recalled eggs should be thoroughly cleaned with hot, soapy water or run through a dishwasher to prevent cross-contamination.
The CDC will continue monitoring the outbreak and providing updates as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, it is essential for consumers to check their egg supplies and take the necessary precautions to protect their health.
