In a widely shared segment of the “Joe Rogan Experience,” podcaster Joe Rogan and former professor Bret Weinstein explored the idea of election manipulation in the United States, coining the term “cheat factor” to describe the margin needed to rig election outcomes. Their discussion, which touched on everything from political corruption to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, has sparked significant debate online.

Rogan recounted how reading a book on the Kennedy assassination caused him to question the narratives pushed by the U.S. government and media. “Before reading that, I was never a questioner of whatever was in the news or whatever the narrative was that we were being told about anything,” Rogan said.
Weinstein responded by suggesting that a significant portion of political events since Kennedy’s death may have been orchestrated by the same entities involved in his assassination. The two agreed that the U.S. system of governance allows for only a “certain amount of democracy,” with powerful groups working behind the scenes to shape outcomes.
Rogan proposed that one of the reasons the establishment is so opposed to former President Donald Trump is that “there is only a certain amount of stealing they can do.” He asked Weinstein, “Let’s imagine if it’s dirty and you really can manipulate elections. How much can you manipulate by? Can you manipulate by 30%?”
Weinstein explained his concept of the “cheat factor,” a margin by which election outcomes could potentially be rigged. However, he reassured listeners that it is still possible to overcome such manipulation if enough voters turn out. “It’s not hopeless because they can cheat,” Weinstein said, adding that voters must “succeed at a level that exceeds their capacity to erase it.”
The discussion then shifted to Trump’s 2016 victory, which Weinstein pointed to as evidence that the system can still be upended by a candidate who challenges the establishment. “He was clearly off narrative and he did become president,” Weinstein noted.
Rogan and Weinstein’s conversation emphasizes the need for overwhelming voter participation to counter any potential election manipulation. Their call for Americans to deliver a “red wave” large enough to surpass the so-called cheat factor underscores the importance of massive turnout in future elections.
As the 2024 election approaches, the duo’s theory will be put to the test, with many Trump supporters hoping to see him return to the White House in a landslide victory. However, even if election meddling is suspected, both Rogan and Weinstein suggest that a strong voter turnout is the key to ensuring a fair and transparent outcome.
