Activity List
1. My Cultural Tradition Ask each child to think about their own family traditions and share their cultural experiences. Do they celebrate Easter, Hanukkah, or the Lunar New Year? What special celebrations or holidays do they most look forward to each year? What other traditions, such as foods and desserts, or traditional clothing do they most associate with their own cultural tradition?
2. Make a Chinese Lantern Follow this simple tutorial and make a Chinese lantern with your child!
4. Cultural Passport As your child learns about new cultures, have them draw a picture in their very own cultural passport! For every new culture they learn about, they can design a new page to represent it. See how many pages children can fill!
5. World Map Discovery Print out a world map or use a globe and show children where each country is located. For this activity, you may also help children conceptualize distance and talk about how many hours it would take to fly to that country. In addition, you can discuss with your children the different climate considerations and ask them how might the weather shape different cultural habits.
6. Say Thank You in Multiple Languages Teach children how to say ‘thank you’ in multiple languages.
