Major Champion Jon Rahm Withdraws from LIV Golf Houston Due to Foot Infection

Jon Rahm, a major champion, withdrew after six holes of the second round at LIV Golf Houston on Saturday due to an infection in his left foot, according to the tour’s website.

Rahm’s participation in next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 is uncertain. The Spaniard previously won the U.S. Open in 2021 at Torrey Pines and claimed a second major title at the 2023 Masters.

Ranked No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Rahm parred his six holes (Nos. 5-10) on Saturday at the Golf Club of Houston. He scored a 3-under-par 69 on Friday. During the broadcast, LIV commentators noted Rahm was dealing with a cut between two of his toes and was visibly limping and in pain throughout the round.

Rahm, 29, is scheduled to hold a news conference on Tuesday morning ahead of the U.S. Open, taking place June 13-16 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

In his first year on the LIV Tour after leaving the PGA Tour in December, Rahm is second in the individual points standings but has yet to win any of the seven events he has played. He is also the captain of the Legion XIII team on the tour.

The LIV Tour announced that the scores of his three teammates — Caleb Surratt, Tyrrell Hatton, and Kieran Vincent — will count towards Saturday’s team scores. Reserve player Ben Campbell will replace Rahm for the final round on Sunday, where all four scores will count for each team.
