Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov criticized the recent U.S. House of Representatives’ decision to approve a significant security aid package for Ukraine. Speaking on Saturday, Peskov argued that this move would “make the United States of America richer, further ruin Ukraine and result in the deaths of even more Ukrainians, the fault of the Kyiv regime,” according to statements reported by Russian news agencies. Peskov’s remarks underscore ongoing tensions as the Kremlin continues its military actions in Ukraine, initiated over two years ago.

The House passed a legislative package totaling $60.84 billion in aid to Ukraine, which includes $23 billion earmarked to replenish U.S. weapons, stocks, and facilities. Following the House’s approval, the package is expected to advance to the U.S. Senate for confirmation next week and subsequently to President Joe Biden for his signature.

In addition to criticizing the aid itself, Peskov condemned provisions within the legislation that permit the U.S. administration to seize Russian assets and allocate them to Ukraine for reconstruction efforts. He stated that such actions would damage the international reputation of the United States and announced that Russia would take retaliatory measures.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also weighed in on the approval of the U.S. aid, describing it on the Telegram messaging platform as a predictable outcome driven by “Russophobia.” Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Security Council and known for his hawkish views, declared, “We will, of course, be victorious regardless of the bloodsoaked $61 billion, which will mostly be swallowed up by their insatiable military industrial complex.”

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, criticized the broader implications of the aid, suggesting that it would “deepen crises throughout the world.” According to her Telegram post, military support for Ukraine constitutes “direct sponsorship of terrorist activity,” while aid to Taiwan represents interference in China’s internal affairs, and support for Israel could lead to heightened regional tensions and escalation.

The aid package’s approval also drew remarks from Zakharova on Sunday, indicating that it signifies a deepening involvement of the U.S. in a hybrid war with Russia, likening potential outcomes to past U.S. military engagements in Vietnam and Afghanistan. She remarked on the fate of ordinary Ukrainians, being used as “cannon fodder,” and suggested that the U.S. strategy no longer relies on a Ukrainian victory. These statements reflect the intense geopolitical strife and the divergent narratives offered by Russian officials regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
