Nezha, as the great god of the Santan Haihui, appeared for the first time in Wu Chengen's "Journey to the West".
It is worth noting that in each version of "Journey to the West", the relationship between Nezha and Monkey King is very subtle. Apart from the task of collecting monsters, he also has some other feelings for this daring Monkey King.
It all starts with Nezha's origin.
There are relatively few descriptions about Nezha in "Journey to the West", and there are not many times to show his power. One time, after Monkey King worshiped Bi Mawen, he disliked the official and rebelled and went to heaven. Nezha was named the Great God of the Three Altars Haihui , together with his father Tota Heavenly King, went down to catch demons.
Another time was when Wukong fought against the green bull monster. Nezha followed the king of Tota to catch the monster, but the weapon was directly sucked away by the blue bull monster. Later, Wukong asked the god of water and god of fire for help.
Later, Tang Seng was caught in the bottomless pit by the half-cut Avalokitesvara mouse spirit, and Monkey King discovered the relationship between the monster and Li Jing Nezha, so he went to the heaven to ask for an explanation.

Sun Wukong when he was making trouble in the Heavenly Palace was very similar to Nezha back then. When he saw the other party's deeds, he would definitely think of his own past.

After Nezha died, his soul floated to the Tathagata, begging him to save his life, and the Tathagata gave him a body of lotus root, "Recite the mantra of resurrection from the dead, and Nezha took his life."
After Nezha's resurrection, his mana is stronger than before. He can subdue the ninety-six cave monsters. He has strong mana. He took the opportunity to seek Li Jing's revenge for the bone removal.
Li Jing was afraid. Nezha was very powerful back then, but he was even more powerful now, and then Li Jing also came to ask the Tathagata.
In order to mediate the resentment between the father and son, the Tathagata gave Li Jing an exquisite golden pagoda with relics, and there were Buddha characters on every floor of the pagoda. He was worried that Nezha would not accept this family relationship, and asked Nezha to regard Buddha as his father . , to resolve this grievance.
This time Sun Wukong went to the Heavenly Court to ask for an explanation. Li Jing became angry after hearing it. He felt that the other party was slandering him, so he slashed at him with a knife, but Nezha blocked the knife halfway.
Then Li Jing was terrified. The original book described him as "frightened and pale", because he was at home at this time and did not have a tota in his hand, so he was worried: If Nezha came to take revenge again, he might not be able to escape.
Afterwards, he quickly went to the table next to him and took the golden pagoda, holding it in his hand, before he dared to ask Nezha why he blocked his own knife, which shows the deep shadow of Nezha's revenge and death.
So Li Jing's pagoda is specially used to guard against his son Nezha.
In "Journey to the West", one of Tathagata's functions is to mediate conflicts. He not only resolved the enmity between Li Jing and Nezha's father and son, but also came here as a peacemaker when Monkey King made trouble in the Heavenly Palace.
At the same time, this is also a proof that he, as a Buddhist leader, recruited talents for his own sect.
Nezha and Monkey King are both products of the combination of Buddhism and Taoism.
After Nezha experienced the story of Nezha's troubles in the sea, he was greatly graciously saved by the Tathagata, and even his father Li Jing became the beneficiary of the Tathagata's kindness.
And Sun Wukong's ability comes from the Taoist Patriarch Subhuti. Later, he was officially worshiped by Bi Mawen and Qitian Dasheng. Because of the disturbance in the Heavenly Palace, he was suppressed under Wuzhi Mountain for 500 years. After being rescued by Tang Monk, he went west to Tianzhu to learn scriptures and completed the Tao Transformation to Buddha.
