U.S. Officials Suspect Putin’s Disinformation Aims to Curtail Ukraine Aid

By Gloria Ogbonna

Anonymous U.S. officials have conveyed to the New York Times their conviction that Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to diminish U.S. and European support for Ukraine through disinformation campaigns.

As reported by the Times, “Russia’s disinformation aims to bolster support for candidates opposing Ukraine aid with the ultimate objective of halting international military assistance to Kyiv.”

According to “American officials,” Russia has grown frustrated by the sustained unity of the U.S. and Europe in providing continued military and economic support to Ukraine and is intent on weakening this support.

And there it is folks! All opposition to Ukraine funding should be assumed to be a Russian op. They think you’re all morons & they can pull this stunt again!

NO MORE WAR NO MORE $ NO MORE DEATH!

The Times report, authored by a journalist covering U.S. intelligence agencies, emerges amid a substantial congressional struggle over the allocation of billions in taxpayer funds to Ukraine.

Republicans in both the House and Senate, opposing further aid to Ukraine, achieved a significant victory when a stop-gap U.S. government funding measure passed on Saturday without any of the aid the Biden administration had requested.

The Times’ report highlights how Republican opposition compelled congressional leaders to approve a bill devoid of Ukraine aid, suggesting that Putin is closely monitoring U.S. political discussions concerning Ukraine assistance.

President Joe Biden is now urging House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and other Republicans to pass a separate bill providing Ukraine with aid, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Wow this article. Pure CIA crafted propaganda from word one. Put this thing in a fake news museum.

The Biden administration has sought an additional $24 billion for Ukraine through the end of the year, in addition to the $113 billion committed since February 2022.

The report also speculates that Moscow is likely to attempt to promote pro-Russian candidates in Europe and could seek to influence next year’s European parliamentary vote.

It asserts that Russia has a longstanding history of leveraging its intelligence services to impact democratic politics worldwide and is expected to intensify disinformation efforts in the coming months.

The American officials provided their insights under the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence, the report concluded.

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of former President Donald Trump, commented on the report, suggesting that opposition to Ukraine funding might be portrayed as a Russian operation. He emphasized the need to avoid war, excessive spending, and loss of life.

You only question US Ukraine policy because Putin told you so. https://t.co/Gtoknfc2w3

A writer for the American Mind criticized the article as “pure CIA-crafted propaganda,” denouncing it as an attempt to manipulate public opinion. Another critic argued that questioning U.S. Ukraine policy was being wrongly attributed to Putin’s influence.
