Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the paramilitary Wagner group, has been confirmed dead by genetic tests. The incident of his death occurred last week in the Tver region northwest of
Moscow. Russia’s aviation agency had already released the names of all 10 individuals onboard the private jet at the time of the crash. Among them were Prigozhin and Dmitry Utkin, his
trusted associate and co-founder of the Wagner group.
All ten individuals on-board were identified through genetic tests, and correspond to the flight sheet list.
US President Joe Biden has placed blame for Prigozhin’s death on Russia, stating that, “I don’t know for a fact what happened, but I’m not surprised. There’s not much that happens in
Russia that Putin’s not behind.”
The Kremlin has denied that it assassinated Prigozhin, stating that the idea that they are behind Prigozhin’s death is an “absolute lie”.
Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin is requiring Wagner Group fighters to sign an Oath of Allegiance to the Russian state, following the death of Prigozhin.
Previously, I’d reported that:
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the paramilitary Wagner group, has been killed in an attack on his plane. It is currently unknown, as to who carried out the attack or what their motive was.
This follows Prigozhin’s coup attempt against the Kremlin, which was halted in a deal with Belarus. Thus, there are rumors that Putin had Prigozhin assassinated over this brazen attempt. There are rumors that Ukraine had him killed. There are also rumors that Prigozhin accepted a bribe from the CIA to overthrow Putin, before taking the money and not following through. There are also rumors that Prigozhin faked his own death. This shows just how little is actually known about this incident, thus far.
It is being reported that nine others lost their lives in the explosion that killed Prigozhin. The Pentagon is stating that there is no evidence of a surface-to-air missile having been used.
Russia is currently carrying out an investigation on Prigozhin’s death. ABC News is reporting that, “[…] in St. Petersburg — Prigozhin’s home town — dozens of people have been arriving to light candles and drop flowers at a pop-up memorial.”
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Prigozhin’s death was most likely an assassination.
