The 95th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The ceremony will honor the best films and performances of 2022, as chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Jimmy Kimmel will host the show for the third time, and the nominees were announced on January 24, 2023. There are some surprises in the list of Oscar nominated movies 2023, first to mention Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The film with the most nominations in the list of Oscar nominated movies 2023 is Everything Everywhere All at Once, a sci-fi comedy starring Michelle Yeoh as a woman who can access parallel universes. The film received 11 nominations, including best picture, best actress for Yeoh, best-supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, best supporting actress for Jamie Lee Curtis, and best director for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The film also won the Golden Globe for best motion picture - musical or Comedy. 

Other films with multiple nominations in the list of Oscar nominated movies 2023 include All Quiet on the Western Front, a remake of the 1930 classic about World War I soldiers, with nine nominations; The Banshees of Inisherin, a dark comedy set in Ireland, with nine nominations; Elvis, a biopic of the rock and roll legend, with eight nominations.

The next list is also available The Fabelmans, a semi-autobiographical film by Steven Spielberg about his childhood, with seven nominations; Tár, a historical drama about a Hungarian poet and revolutionary, with six nominations; Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to the 1986 action film starring Tom Cruise, with six nominations; and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a superhero film and sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, with five nominations.

Some of the notable acting nominees in the list of Oscar nominated movies 2023 include Brendan Fraser for his role as a morbidly obese recluse in The Whale; Austin Butler for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Elvis; Colin Farrell for his performance as a ruthless gangster in The Banshees of Inisherin; Paul Mescal for his debut film role as a troubled musician in Aftersun; Bill Nighy for his role as a retired civil servant in Living; Cate Blanchett for her role as a Hungarian countess in Tár.

There are also Ana de Armas for her role as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde; Andrea Riseborough for her role as a dying mother in Leslie; Michelle Williams for her role as Spielberg's mother in The Fabelmans; Angela Bassett for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; Hong Chau for her role as Fraser's estranged wife in The Whale; Kerry Condon for her role as Farrell's wife in The Banshees of Inisherin; and Stephanie Hsu for her role as Yeoh's daughter in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Some films that were snubbed or received fewer nominations than expected include Babylon, a period drama set in Hollywood's golden age, which received only two nominations for best costume design and best original score. Blonde, which received only one nomination for de Armas despite being praised by critics. 

Causeway, a thriller starring Brian Tyree Henry and Daisy Ridley, received only one nomination for Henry's supporting role. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a sequel to the 2019 hit whodunit starring Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas, which received only one nomination for the best-adapted screenplay; and Triangle of Sadness, a satire about the fashion industry by Swedish director Ruben Östlund, which received only one nomination for best original screenplay despite winning the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
